Etymology

Either from Sanskrit तुखार (tukhāra) via Hindi तुखार (tukhār), or from Classical Persian تُخَار (tuxār).

Meanings

1. Synonym of Tocharian (“any member of the Tochari, a people who inhabited Bactria”)
   • The Vishnu Purana describes the kaleidoscopic change of dynasties which ruled in Maghada. Nandas were succeeded by Mauryas, Mauryas by Sungas, Sungas by Kanyas, Andhras and Abhirs, they by Sakas or Scythians, Sakas by the Yavana kings and they by Tukhars and so on. 1916, The Law of Impartible Property, page 48:
