Etymology

im 15. Jahrhundert von lateinisch prōnōmen ^(→ la) entlehnt; strukturell: Verbindung aus pro (für) und Nomen (Namenwort, Nennwort). Anmerkung: Die Wortprägung stammt aus der antiken lateinischen Grammatik, bezog sich dort aber nicht auf irgendeine der heute gängigen Bedeutungen von Nomen (das synonym mit Substantiv sein kann oder synonym mit deklinierbare Wortart in der heutigen Lateingrammatik). Die ursprüngliche Bedeutung in der antiken lateinischen Grammatik war: „Wort, das anstelle des Namens (= lat.: nomen) eine bestimmte Person bezeichnet“ (und schloss daher Indefinitpronomina noch nicht ein).
