Etymology
Blend of vision + electronics, perhaps modelled on avionics.
Meanings
-
(uncountable) The use of electronic sensors to acquire visual data.
There have been technological advances in flight controls, electronics, avionics and visionics (sensors), which are now more efficient in terms of their requirements and uses of space, weight, power, form, fit and function. With respect to visionics, in particular, these reductions have made the "black box" hardware and associated software attractive for use in helicopter warfare.
