Later (1828) variant of variated, from Latin variatus, past participle of variare.

Meanings

1. (not-comparable) Cut in the form of vair; battlemented with solid projections and crenelles, both pointed, but in the latter case reversed.
   • Urdée, in point, or contrary urdée, termed also varriated, point in point. See Plate XLIX. No. 2, fig. 32, viz. barry of six, contrary urdée; by some blazoned, barry of six, champion—barry of six, per pale, varriated, point in point— 1828, William Berry, Encyclopaedia Heraldica: Or, Complete Dictionary of Heraldry:
