Meanings

1. A gynecological surgeon who specializes in surgery that enters the body through the vagina (as opposed to laparoscopic surgery, for example).
   • The unreasonable preference for the vaginal method as a routine procedure was given up by all but a few trained vaginalists, and now we have come to select impartially, according to our knowledge and skill, the proper route for each case. 1905, The Chicago Medical Recorder - Volume 27, page 166:
