From un- + sleepy, perhaps continuing Middle English *unslepy, from Old English unslǣpiġ (“sleepless”). Compare Dutch onslaperig (“unsleepy”), German unschläfrig (“unsleepy”).

Meanings

1. Not sleepy; wakeful.
