A type of basin, usually provided for shipping, where the tide rises and falls, without a constant depth of water.
Today, Heysham is one of the busiest of Lancashire's smaller ports, with a tidal basin of 36 acres, and a depth of 45½ ft. and 17 ft. at high and low water respectively on spring tides.
