Any railway station having one or more tracks running through it, and that is not built as a terminus where trains can go no further without changing direction.
That is according to a leading academic who has told MPs to heed the lessons from Germany where terminus stations, like those planned on the route of HS2 in Birmingham and Manchester, are currently being replaced by higher-capacity and more operationally efficient through-stations.
