(qualifier:classical mechanics, uncountable) Friction between two or more solid objects that are not moving relative to each other.
Two main types of friction that exist are static friction and kinetic friction. Static friction keeps an object from moving when a force is applied. A person pushing on a heavy object is unable to budge it because of static friction.
