(uncountable) The management of snow, using barriers and equipment, in order to manipulate its coverage, e.g. to prepare ground for skiing or to prevent snowdrifts.
Areas including Kitzbühel, Kitzsteinborn, Davos, Seefeld and even Europe's highest resort, Val Thorens, have used “snowfarming”–where, at the end of winter, remaining snow is collected in a huge pile, or “snow depot”, then insulated using various combinations of woodchips, sawdust, hard insulation boards, waterproof plastic and fleece blankets.
