   • Sonorous rhonchi are produced in the larger bronchi, and are often spoken of as large rhonchi, while sibilant rhonchi, originating in the smaller air tubes, are also known as small rhonchi. 1907, Henry Lawrence McKisack, A Dictionary of Medical Diagnosis:
   • The sonorous rhonchus is heard in the larger tubes; but when the inflammation extends to the smaller tubes, a sibilant rhonchus is produced, which is caused by the same physical condition as the sonorous, but difi'ers from it on account of the smaller calibre of the tubes in which it occurs. 1841, The New England Journal of Medicine, volume 23, page 7:
