1. (countable, uncountable) Something which resembles or appears to be colonization (in various senses), but is really not.
   • We have been working for the past 18 years on a taxonomic revision of the ants of Puerto Rico, and this fact has enabled us to avoid erroneously recording extinctions and colonizations because of misidenti®cations. Species misidentifications could result in pseudoextinctions and pseudocolonization, while the number of species does not change (in perfect agreement with the MacArthur and Wilson model). 1997 August, Juan A.
