A glycoprotein enzyme secreted by the epithelial cells of the prostate gland and becoming part of the ejaculate; used in the diagnosis of prostate cancer.
In 2012, the US Preventive Services Task Force recommended against screening all men for prostate cancer using a prostate-specific antigen blood test, concluding the benefits did not outweigh the risks.
