  1. (qualifier:quantum mechanics) The principle that an object is influenced directly only by its immediate surroundings; i.e. adhering to the limit of the speed of light.
  2. The principle that well-formedness of syllables can only be derived from syllable-internal information.
    • One would expect to find nasal codas followed by any consonant class (stop, continuant, or sonorant), as is the case with liquid codas.
