Indeed, when I was 12 or 13 years old and was first discovering the female power fantasies written by Tamora Pierce, I distinctly remembering thinking her headstrong and sexpositive female lead Alanna was arrogant and uncomfortably promiscuous. (The character had a total of three sexual partners in her lifetime.)
