  1. (transitive) To store away, place out of the way, or stash, especially for the longer term.
    • Valentines Day has come and gone. Recordings of "What the World Needs Now is Love, Sweet Love" have been packed away by the disc jockeys for another year. Candy in heart-shaped boxes now sells for half price. 1974 February 16, A. Nolder Gay, “Beauty and the Beast”, in Gay Community News, volume 1, number 34, page 3:
    • She packed away her warm sweaters for the summer.
  2. (transitive) To eat (a great deal of food).
    • Have you ever seen someone pack away five hot dogs in one sitting?
