(countable, uncountable) Any flowering plant of the genus Nitraria, family Nitrariaceae, native to Africa, Europe, Asia, Russia and Australia.
These habitats were most evident on the Iberian Peninsula where, by 15 million years ago, members of the thorn-rose genus (Neurada), esparto grass, honey mesquite and nitre bush (Nitraria) flourished in arid shrublands.
