1. A shot (snapshot or series of film exposures) taken from enough distance to show a character from the knees on up, wider than a medium shot but tighter than a long shot.
   • The size of a medium long shot is also ideal to establish the dynamics of a relationship between characters, by the way they are placed within the composition (by using Hitchcock's rule, or balanced/unbalanced framings, for instance). 2013, Gustavo Mercado, The Filmmaker's Eye, page 53:
