Market urbanists generally do not support explicit zoning rules that require affordable housing as part of a new development, arguing that such rules can make it economically infeasible to build new housing at all. Other types of urbanists, on the other hand, often believe that pure deregulation will not solve most city problems on their own, such as the need for affordable housing.
