Etymology

Formed of macro- (“large”) + -mastia (“abnormality of the breast”) + -ic, from Ancient Greek μακρός (makrós, “long”) and μαστός (mastós, “breast”).

Meanings

1. (not-comparable, of a breast, usually) Unusually large.
   • A contralateral ptotic or macromastic breast should not be replicated. It is either reduced or lifted at the time of the second procedure. 2014, Adam Riker, Breast Disease: Comprehensive Management, page 313:
2. (not-comparable, of an individual, usually) Having large breasts.
