A type of movable bridge over a body of water with one or two spans that can be raised to allow the passage of water traffic whenever necessary; the lifting movement may be either hinged or elevating.
Included in the electrification scheme is the branch from Sittingbourne to Sheerness, which crosses from the mainland to the Isle of Sheppey on the lifting bridge at King's Ferry.
