From Old French hymnodie, from Latin hymnodia, from Ancient Greek ὑμνῳδία (humnōidía), from ὑμνῳδέω (humnōidéō, “to sing a hymn”), from ὕμνος (húmnos, “song of praise”) + ἀείδω (aeídō, “to sing”).
