A measure of the maximum output, usually expressed in horsepower, that can be obtained from the motors of an electric locomotive for a period of one hour without the motors overheating.
The year 1926 saw the putting in service of the first of the magnificent 1-Co-Co-1 locomotives of Type Ae 6/8, which at the time of their construction, with their hourly rating of 4,500 h.p., were the most powerful single electric locomotive units in the world.
