  1. A type of coupling for transmitting power from the engine of a vehicle to the transmission, using a torque converter.
    • The advantage of the fluid flywheel method of transmitting the power, of course, is that it does away with the weight, bulk, and complication of electric generators and motors, and to some extent reduces the cost of the locomotive also. 1958 April 14, Cecil J.
