1. (UK, dated) Any type of goods wagon built for train ferry traffic to and from continental Europe.
   • One train ferry wagon, with the inscription "On hire to L.N.E.R.," was carrying British prisoners; and another odd sight was an L.N.E.R. container on a German flat wagon, offering "Door to Door Transport." 1946 March and April, “Notes and News: Train Watching in a P.O.W. Camp”, in Railway Magazine, page 117:
   • The first of 150 Continental-type four-wheel ferry wagons ordered by B.R. have been received for the Harwich/Zeebrugge train ferry service. Built by the Pressed Steel Co., the vans have a maximum capacity of 20½ tons in ordinary and 18 tons in express freight service. 1962 October, “New ferry wagons for B.R.”, in Modern Railways, page 225:
