  1. (not-comparable) Relating to the development of gametophytes outside the spore wall.
    • Another feature unique to embryophytes, and generally associated with heterospory, is endosporic development of gametophytes. In many homosporous plants, the spore germinates and grows into a gametophyte completely outside the spore wall.
