Etymology
From egg (“a person regarded as having not yet realized they are transgender, who has not yet come out as transgender, or who is in the early stages of transitioning”) + prime directive, in reference to the Prime Directive from media franchise Star Trek.
Meanings

(capitalized, informal, often) The principle against telling someone who is questioning their gender identity whether or not one suspects that they are transgender.
This is the motivation for the other primary justification for the Egg Prime Directive: that it is irresponsible to crack someone’s egg when you are unable to help them through the transition process. This reasoning is far more justifiable than the last, but it is still incomplete.
