  1. A section of railway line or tramline consisting of two parallel tracks, one being used in one direction and the other in the opposite direction.
    • Between them, and fitted with the necessary turntables, capstans, and other appliances for transferring the small four-wheel carriages and vans from one track to another, were 14 tracks which converged outside the station into double-track through the Maiden Lane Tunnel, 528 yd. in length. 1952 October, C.
