(countable, uncountable) The process that represents the transition from high birth and death rates to low birth and death rates as a country develops from a pre-industrial to an industrialized economic system.
Yet it does bring up a much more real problem about China's demographic transition, which has led some to argue that China will "get old before it gets rich."
