Etymology

From day + book. First attested in 1571. Cognate with Dutch dagboek (“diary, journal, logbook”), German Tagebuch (“diary, journal, daybook”), Danish dagbog (“diary”), Swedish dagbok (“diary, logbook, journal, daybook”).
