  1. An individual or company that specializes in collecting personal data, mostly from public records but sometimes sourced privately, and selling or licensing such information to third parties for a variety of uses, often including advertising or marketing.
    • In the United States, there’s not much we can do to find out which aspects of our personal lives are being bought and sold by data brokers.
