crucible en · NOUN

Pronunciation

  • /ˈkɹuː.sɪ.bəl/
  • (US) audio

Etymology

From Latin crucibulum (“night-lamp, metallurgic melting-pot”), apparently a derivative of crux (“cross”), perhaps by analogy to thūribulum (“censer”) and suffix -bulum, or from crucio (“to torment”).
