coup Turc en · NOUN

Etymology

Borrowed from French coup turc (“Turkish strike”).

Meanings

  1. (qualifier:draughts) a complex move involving several pieces in Russian, international, and Brazilian draughts, in which the opponent's pieces, which have already been captured but not yet removed from the board, limit the movement of the king. See the quotation for details.
    • The coup Turc is characterized by three features: 1) The black [in the combination on page 37; the move does not depend on the color of the king] king has to take the most pieces (majority rule). 2) He can only jump over piece 32 once. 3) He should finish the capturing first and only after that he is allowed to take the pieces off of the board. 2008, Tjalling Goedmoed, edited by Martijn de Jong and Martijn van der Klis, A COURSE IN DRAUGHTS, Leeuwarden, page 37:
