Etymology
From coolie + -ism.
Meanings
-
(historical, uncountable) The role or status of a coolie (type of Asian worker).
Slavery gave the master power to destroy all the distinctive heathenism which the African brought with him, and he did destroy it. But coolieism gives the employer no such power, and he does not do it.
