1. (uncountable) The degree or quality of being confessional.
   • Confessionality is the foundation for the Lutheran concept of confessional fellowship (Bekenntnisgemeinschaft). By confessionality is meant the expression of Christian faith in a particular church tradition or denomination of Christianity. For Lutheran churches, the doctrinal basis for this particularity is found in the Bible, in Christian creeds and in the Lutheran confessional documents of the sixteenth century. 2008, Lorelei F.
