Etymology

Borrowed from the German Coitus interruptus, a Latinism of Coitus (the then standard spelling of Koitus) and interruptus (Latin for “interrupted”) in 1886, a year after its German coining. Its antonym, coitus reservatus, was borrowed four years later, in 1890, despite having been coined five years before it, in 1880, in German.
