Meanings

1. Near spatially or temporally.
   • As I writer, I always keep a dictionary close at hand.
   • The sea, of which a distant glimpse has been caught at Saundersfoot, is now close at hand, and the view extends to the cliffs at Giltar Point and the bold outlines of Caldy Island, a mile or so off shore. 1959 October 14, H.
