Etymology

From international scientific vocabulary, from New Latin; by surface analysis, chlor- + -osis, where chlor- in this instance refers to pale yellow-green colorations and not to chlorine.

  1. (countable) An anaemia, due to deficiency of iron, characterized by a yellow-green coloration of the skin.
    • The effects of hemoglobin in anemia and chlorosis, and even in tuberculosis, are due to its triple action; it acts opotherapeutically, through the blood oxydases, which it contains when properly prepared. 1915, “Hemoglobin in Anemia”, in American Medicine, volume 21, page 22:
