Learned borrowing from Latin asphodelus, from Ancient Greek ἀσφόδελος (asphódelos). Doublet of daffodil.

(uncountable, usually) Any of the flowering plants of the family Asphodelaceae, especially Asphodelus ramosus and Asphodelus albus; the flower of these plants.
