Borrowed from New Latin amaurōsis, from Ancient Greek ἀμαύρωσις (amaúrōsis, “dimming, obscuring, amaurosis”), from ᾰ̓μαυρόω (ămauróō, “to grow dim”), from ἀμαυρός (amaurós, “dim”).
