Etymology

From New Latin abomāsum, from ab- (“away from”) + omāsum (“tripe of a bullock”).

1. The fourth digestive compartment of the stomach of a cow or other ruminant, after the omasum;
   • The abomasa of sheep grazing on natural pastures in the highveld of Zimbabwe were examined at Mt. Hampden abattoir between October 1985 and September 1986 for H. contortus. Of 304 abomasa, 213 (70%) harboured H. contortus. 1990, Commonwealth Agricultural Bureaux, Animal Disease Occurrence, Volumes 11-14, page 60:
