Meanings

1. (historical) In medieval Britain, the part of a lordship or other domain inhabited by Welsh people following their own customs.
   • In the Welshries the freemen continued, throughout the Middle Ages, both their forms of tenure and farming, but paid the tribute of cattle, or sheep, or honey, or oats to the Norman lord who had displaced their Welsh chief. 1973, Glanville R.
