Etymology

Borrowed from Latin Ursa maior (“(the) greater bear”).

Meanings

1. A large circumpolar constellation of the northern sky, said to resemble a bear. It includes the familiar asterism the Big Dipper and the stars Mizar, Dubhe, and Alkaid.
