Etymology
By analogy with the United Nations. First attested on 20 November 1996 (see quotations), with the earliest-known incarnation founded in March 1997.
Meanings

A common title used by an individual intermicronational organisation; or, more strictly, an intermicronational organisation founded in emulation of the United Nations.
Starting in the mid-1990's, the Web has spurred the creation of hundreds of new nations. Many have since organized into leagues or assemblies comparable to the United Nations. Most prominent are the League of Secessionist States and the United Micronations.
