From Sanskrit श्वेताम्बर (śvetāmbara), from Sanskrit श्वेत (śveta, “white”) and अम्बर (ambara, “cloth”)
Meanings
- One of the two main branches of Jainism (the other being the Digambara), in which the ascetics wear white clothes and are not obliged to practise nudity.
