Etymology
From Old English Sūþrigē, Sūþrigēa (“southern region”), from sūþerne (“southern”) + -gē (“district, region”).
Meanings
- An inland county of South East England, bordered clockwise by Greater London, Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire and Berkshire.
- The easternmost of the three historical counties of Jamaica, bordered by the county of Middlesex in the west; named after the English county.
