   • The term Iceberg was originally given to the glaciers of Spitzbergen and Greenland, and is now applied by the South Sea sealers and whalers to the glaciers of the South Shetlands, South Georgia, Sandwich Land, and Terra del Fuego. 1844, John Hayes, “Probable Influence of Icebergs upon Drift”, in Boston Journal of Natural History, volume 4, page 429:
   • The South Sea skins, being the skins of seals principally caught on the South Shetland Islands, South Georgia Islands, and Sandwich Land. 1893. Bering Sea Arbitration, Vol. 3, p. 555
