Shiaphobia is nothing new for Saudi Arabia. The kingdom's legitimacy derives from the Wahhabi sect of Islam, a Sunni Muslim group that attacked Shiite shrines in Iraq in the nineteenth century, and today systematically discriminates against Shias.
