   • Madison, county of Virginia ; bounded SE, S, and SW, by Orange county, or the Rapid Ann river ; NW by the Blue Ridge, or Shanandoah county ; and NE, and E by Culpepper. It is about 28 miles square ; and has an area of 784 square miles. It is drained entirely by various creeks of the Rapid Ann ; the surface is moderately hilly and soil of middling quality. Staples flour and tobacco.
