From Latin ponticus, from Ancient Greek Ποντῐκός (Pontĭkós), from Πόντος (Póntos, “Black Sea, Pontus”) + -ικός (-ikós, “-ic: forming adjectives”). Equivalent to Pontus + -ic. Doublet of bonduc and bundook.
